This scheme extends and reconfigures a mid-terraced Victorian property to create a spacious and light filled contemporary home for a young family. kaap studio architects worked on this project in collaboration with Scandi Studio.
The existing living space was cramped with a poor connection to the garden and an old kitchen extension in need of updating. We designed a full width rear extension to create a large breakfast room and kitchen and to bring light into the centre of the property.
Oversized sliding glass panels spanning the full width of the property at the rear create a light filled family space and enhance views to the rear garden.
The family needed more living space therefore a full basement incorporating a playroom, guest room, study, wine room and utility area was introduced. Lightwells at the front and the rear of the basement flood the space with natural light and air.
The bespoke joinery was designed by kaap studio architects in close collaboration with the client to create a balanced and uniform result. A simple material palette of oak, white and light grey joinery and glass creates a minimalist aesthetic throughout the home.
